Wednesdays 7.30 to 9.30pm
The Foundation Programme provides an ideal opportunity to deepen our understanding and personal experience of the benefits of Buddhism and meditation through in-depth study and practice of meditation and mindful living. It is designed for those who wish to explore Buddhism and meditation in more depth than is available at our General Programme classes. It takes on a more structured approach with the study of a particular book written by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso with classes consisting of guided meditations, chanted meditations, teachings and discussion.
We are presently studying The New Eight Steps to Happiness, a modern day commentary by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso to one of Buddhism’s best-loved teachings, Eight Verses of Training the Mind, composed by the great Tibetan Bodhisattva, Geshe Langri Tangpa, (an eleventh-century Buddhist Master), which has inspired generations of Buddhist practitioners for almost a thousand years. Through studying this text, we can learn practical ways in which we can apply this timeless wisdom of Bodhisattva Langri Tangpa's to find meaning and lasting happiness in our busy modern lives.
"Although Eight Verses was written over nine hundred years ago, it is as relevant today as it was then. Whether Buddhist or not, anyone with a genuine wish to overcome their daily problems and achieve permanent inner peace and happiness can benefit from Langri Tangpa's advice." - Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
